Best Free Standing Tub Reviews in 2026

If you want to turn an ordinary bathroom into a contemporary one, a freestanding bathtub is the best place to start. It adds a sculptural centerpiece to the room and gives you a deeper, more relaxing soak.

The tub you choose depends largely on the material you prefer. Freestanding tubs are made from cast iron, acrylic, stone, bronze, copper, stainless steel and resin. As well as the material, you must consider the size and style. Below we compare five freestanding tubs, four acrylic models and a cast iron clawfoot, followed by a guide to sizes and materials. Remember that you will also need a tub filler: see our freestanding tub faucet reviews.

A note on our process: A spec sheet can’t tell you how a product holds up after the box is unpacked and the excitement fades. Before we finalize any list, we dig into what real owners say once they’ve lived with it for weeks or months, the small annoyances, the pleasant surprises, the details a listing photo never shows. We use research tools, including AI, to sort through that volume faster, but every pick and verdict here reflects our own judgment, weighted heavily toward what actual owners keep saying.

Freestanding Tub Size

Think about who will use the tub and how much room they need. A 59-inch tub suits smaller bathrooms and bathers, while 67 inches or more gives plenty of space to stretch out. Measure your bathroom carefully, allowing enough space around the tub for cleaning and for the filler, and check the interior depth as well as the exterior length, because the soaking depth is what matters for comfort.

Freestanding Tub Materials

  • Acrylic. Lightweight, warm to the touch, affordable and available in many shapes. Good quality acrylic is reinforced with fiberglass and resin, and it holds heat well for its weight.
  • Cast iron. Very heavy and very durable, with a porcelain enamel surface that holds the heat for a long time, but the price is high and the floor must support the weight.
  • Stone. Tubs carved from travertine, marble or granite make a bold statement, but they are extremely heavy, and the floor must be able to carry up to about 2,000 pounds.
  • Solid surface and resin. Composite materials give a stone look without the weight and can form a wide range of shapes and sizes.
  • Copper, stainless steel and wood. Specialty materials that offer distinctive, high-end looks and need more upkeep.

Why Choose a Freestanding Tub?

Freestanding tubs have largely replaced the sunken garden tubs and jetted tubs that were so common a few years ago. The new styles of soaking tub give up the noise and vigor of jets in favor of a quiet, deep soak, and they come in many finishes and shapes, from modern lines to old-fashioned claw feet. In a large bathroom a freestanding tub adds an element of sculpture. More and more people are turning their bathroom into a spa, with body sprays, steam showers and radiant heat floors, and a freestanding tub is the natural centerpiece. See our electric radiant floor heating reviews for the other half of that spa.

Before you order

Check the floor load and the plumbing position before you order a tub, and remember that the filler is a separate purchase.

Basically I love the gentle curved oval ones. You might have another suggestion from a different company? Thoughts?

  2. The walk in tub makes a home, when for sale not the greater value. As it is now an old person home, and it leaves out the young generation from purchasing the home, harder to sell unless in a old folks community.

Walk in tubs are great addition for your home if you are limited with space or you have a person with disabilities in your household.

It shouldn’t be harder to sell a house with walk in tub because they are easily replaced.
